From founder of MomAgapé, Gifts Sent With Love:
The vision for MomAgape Gifts Sent with Love began when I came across the poem “Our Morning Chat.” It was written for my Mom after Grandma passed away and had been tucked in a folder since 2005. When I wrote the poem, I wanted to inspire her to not dwell in her grief, it broke my heart to see her sad.
Mom and Grandma would share their morning coffee each day over the phone. In summary, "Our Morning Chat” was intended for Mom to understand it was ok to keep space for grief, but that it was also ok for her to experience joy each day.
On December 24, 2021, my Mom passed away from cancer. Shortly after her passing I came across “Our Morning Chat” again. Her passing was devastating to me and as I read the words of the poem it hit home. I was now reading my own words, through the eyes of my children and loved ones.
Unfortunately, I did get stuck in my grief and four months later found myself checking into a rehabilitation facility. Alcohol had become my main coping mechanism and instead of helping me, it was sucking the life out of me. My Mom’s death is not to blame for my drinking as I had been a functional drinker for quite some time. It was just the straw that broke the camel’s back; I had completely lost the ability to control my drinking and wanted my life back.
Thankfully I got the help I needed and have been sober since April 2022! The vision for turning “Our Morning Chat” into a gift box began while in treatment and evolved to the addition of recovery boxes.
Our Morning Chat still holds true to my heart; I permit space for grief, remember the good times and experience joy each day, just as it should be, the way my Mom would want it to be.
My goal is to help you express your love and encouragement with a beautifully packaged gift. Whether it be grief or recovery, your loved one is going through a healing process and in my experience, those letters and gifts are so uplifting.
